Essential Oils for Hair Care


Essential oils, nature's botanical essences, can work wonders on your hair and scalp. They can be used to cleanse the scalp, strengthen hair, control irritation and dandruff, stimulate hair follicles, improve circulation and even promote hair growth. Some essential oils improve the condition of the scalp whiles others improve the condition of the hair.


Rosemary - Stimulates hair growth. Good for dry hair. Good for dandruff and itchy scalp.

 

Lavender Essential Oil - Soothes and calms the scalp. Possesses regenerative properties. When used with other oils essential oils. Lavender helps to retract skin cells that have been inflamed from chemicals. Can calm eczema and produces great results with respect to hair growth.

 

Lemon Essential Oil -Good for the treatment of dry scalp, dandruff, lice and under active sebaceous glands. Curly or dry hair can benefit from lemon oil. Gives golden highlights. Helps balance natural scalp oils.

 

Peppermint Essential Oil- Stimulates blood flow which stimulates hair growth.

 

Cedarwood Essential Oil- Normalizes dry and oily scalp. Stimulates scalp and hair follicles. Used to treat hair loss and dandruff. Antiseptic and astringent.

 

Lemongrass Essential Oil- Oily hair. Slows down scalp oil production.

 

Eucalyptus Essential Oil- Antiseptic. Dandruff treatment.

 


 

 

Carrier Oils.

Another type of oil for hair is called carrier oils. The oils are called carrier oils because they carry the essential oil into the skin. Carrier oils are also known as base oil or vegetable oil they are usually derived from seeds or nuts. Carrier oils are best used as natural and unadulterated as possible. Cold pressing and maceration are the two main methods of producing carrier oils. Carrier oils are very important in hair care; they are great moisturizers, strengtheners and very nourishing for hair.

 

Jojoba oil - adds softness, shine and moisture to your hair. It's great moisturizing and healitn natural oil for all hair types.

Almond oil - nourishes hair to make the roots stronger. Smoothes hair follicle. Adds shine and softness.

 

Olive oil - deeply conditions hair, improves strength and elasticity of the hair. Nourishes the scalp. Olive oil helps in preventing as well as curing hair loss as it prevents the production of the hormone DHT which causes the hair follicle shaft to decrease.

 

Coconut Oil - Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats Vitamin-E and Vitamin K and minerals such as Iron. Coconut oil is considered one of the best natural nutrition for hair and is in contention with olive and jojoba oils as the king of the carrier oils. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair and it softens the hair and conditions the scalp.

 

HAIR CONDITIONER OIL
1 tablespoon Jojoba or other carrier oil
3 drops of Rosemary (or other hair care essential oil)

 

Mix the Jojoba and Rosemary in a small bowl (tiny condiment bowls work great for this). Wet your hair with warm water and then apply the conditioner. Let it sit on your hair for 15-30 minutes. Then, wash your hair as normal. Jojoba and rosemary are helpful for dry hair.

 

SCALP MASSAGE
Basic: Place 3 to 5 drops of a hair care conditioner oil (recipe above) on your fingertips and massage your scalp.

Scaly scalp and dandruff blend: Add 2 drops atlas cedarwood, 2 drops lavender, 2 drops rosemary, and 2 drops tea tree oil to 1/2 ounce of a base oil (like jojoba).

 

SCALP STIMULATOR
Here is a lotion that stimulates the scalp and is extremely effective for men's hair growth.
Vodka - 1 teaspoon
Rosemary - 3 drops
Lavender - 5 drops
Mix, then add to 1 tablespoon water

Dip the fingertips into the mixture and massage well into the scalp. It smells nice and can be put onto the hair any time that is convenient for you, not necessarily before or after washing the hair.
